Video converter free

Change a video’s format — iPhone MOV to MP4, MKV to MP4, WebM — or lower the resolution to send it by WhatsApp or email. It can also pull out just the audio.

Your file is never uploaded: the conversion happens on your device, and the result comes out metadata-free (optional).

What is metadata?

Hidden data inside the file, like location (GPS), date and phone. Removed unless you tick “Keep metadata”.

How to convert a video

Drop your video (or several), pick the output format and tap Convert. MP4 plays everywhere: phones, computers, WhatsApp, Instagram, editors. MOV is the iPhone and Mac format, WebM is the web’s open format, and MKV holds whatever you give it, without re-encoding.

When the video inside already fits the new format — the most common case: iPhone MOV or MKV with H.264 to MP4 — the tool only swaps the “container”, without re-encoding the picture. It takes seconds even for a big file and loses no quality. The screen tells you when that happened.

To make the file smaller, choose a lower resolution (720p is plenty for phones and social media) or Medium quality. The video is then re-encoded by your device’s own encoder — on a computer, a 1080p video is usually done in less time than it lasts.

Only need the sound? Pick MP3 under “Audio only” — or use Video to MP3. For audio that’s already in another format (WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG), Audio converter has the right options.

Example: the iPhone video that won’t open on the work computer

A video recorded on an iPhone (MOV, in HEVC) won’t open on the office Windows PC. Drop the file, leave MP4 and tick Most compatible (H.264): the video is re-encoded in a format any computer, TV and editor opens. If the problem were only the “container” (MOV with H.264), switching to MP4 would take seconds, with nothing re-encoded, and the screen would tell you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MOV to MP4?

Drop the MOV file, keep MP4 selected and tap Convert. iPhone videos are already H.264 or HEVC, which MP4 accepts: the tool only changes the format, in seconds and with no quality loss.

My iPhone video won’t play on Windows. What now?

iPhones record in HEVC, which Windows only plays with the codec extension. Tick “Most compatible (H.264)” before converting: the MP4 comes out in H.264, which plays on any device. The video is re-encoded, so it takes longer than just changing the format.

Does converting a video lose quality?

Changing only the format loses nothing, because the video is copied as it is. Changing resolution or quality re-encodes the video — then you choose the balance between size and quality.

How do I make a video file smaller?

Choose MP4, 720p resolution and Medium quality. That’s usually enough for WhatsApp or email, with a file several times smaller.

Why don’t AVI, WMV and FLV open?

They’re old formats browsers can’t read. The tool opens MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and MPEG-TS; an AVI needs converting in an installed program.

Can I cut out part of the video?

No: the tool converts the whole video, changing format, resolution or quality.

Which resolution for social media?

720p is enough for Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp on a phone screen, with a much smaller file than 1080p or 4K.
