How to convert a PDF to PNG

Drop the PDF and each page becomes a PNG. PNG keeps text and lines free of the smudges JPG compression leaves behind, which makes it the right format for logos, charts, slides and any page with small print.

Tick “Transparent background” and the white of the page disappears: whatever was drawn in the PDF sits on empty space. That’s how you pull a logo or artwork out of a PDF and place it over another image, in Canva, on a website or in a video. For ordinary documents, leave it off: black text on a transparent background vanishes against dark backgrounds.

Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is never sent to a server, and password-protected files open with the password you type here, which also stays on your device. “Screen” gives 150 dpi; “High”, 300 dpi, for printing or zooming in.

PNG files are larger than JPG. If the image is going into a chat or a form, use PDF to JPG; if you need a smaller PDF, use Compress PDF.

Example: the logo that only came as a PDF

The print shop sent the company logo only as a PDF, and you need it in Canva on top of a photo. Drop the PDF, tick Transparent background and choose High quality (300 dpi): the white page disappears and the logo comes out as a sharp PNG, ready to place over any background.

For logos, artwork and illustrations that go on top of another image. For ordinary documents, leave it off: black text on a transparent background vanishes on dark backgrounds.

Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?

Which quality should I choose?

Screen (150 dpi) for viewing on computer and phone; High (300 dpi) for printing or design work.

Can I convert just one page?

Yes: each page has its own download button. For a large PDF, choose the range before converting.
