Why convert PNG to JPG

A photo saved as PNG often weighs several times more than the same photo as JPG, with no visible difference. Phone screenshots, photos exported from an editor and images saved from apps are the usual cases. As JPG, the file fits under form limits, loads faster on a website and takes up less space.

JPG has no transparency. If the PNG has a transparent background, the tool tells you instead of quietly ruining the file: you choose to make it anyway, with the transparent areas turned white, or to keep the transparency in WebP, AVIF or PNG.

For logos, icons and artwork with small text, PNG is usually the better choice: JPG adds smudges around thin lines. If in doubt, tick WebP as well and compare the sizes side by side before downloading.

Up to 10 images at a time, no usage limit, no watermark. Metadata is stripped along the way, and you can reduce the resolution in the same pass.

How to convert PNG to JPG in 3 steps

  1. Drop the PNG files in the area above, up to 10 at a time. JPG is already ticked.
  2. If a PNG has a transparent background, the tool warns you and lets you choose: a white background in the JPG, or keep the transparency in another format.
  3. Tap Compress, compare the before and after size, and download each JPG or all of them as a .zip.

A real example, made with the tool

A 12 MP photo saved as PNG weighed 16.7 MB. As JPG, with the same 4032 × 3024 pixels, it came out at 1021 KB — 94% smaller, with no visible difference.

A phone screenshot, full of text and flat backgrounds, shrank far less: from 254 KB to 193 KB (24% smaller). On that kind of image WebP went further, to 101 KB — it’s worth ticking both formats and comparing.

Questions about PNG and JPG

Why is my PNG so heavy?

PNG stores every pixel with no loss at all. For drawings with few colors that’s efficient, but for a photo, with millions of different tones, the file gets huge. Photos do better as JPG or WebP.

What’s the difference between PNG and JPG?

PNG is lossless and keeps transparency: great for logos, icons and screenshots. JPG drops details the eye doesn’t notice and gets much smaller: great for photos. That’s why the same photo weighs several times more as PNG.

JPG or WebP: which should I pick?

JPG opens everywhere, from old programs to sign-up forms. WebP is usually smaller and is supported by current browsers, WordPress and online stores. For your website, WebP; to send to someone, JPG.

Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG drops details the eye barely notices. On photos you can’t tell. On logos, icons or screenshots with small text, smudges appear around the lines — in those cases, keep PNG or use WebP.

Can I convert several PNGs at once?

Up to 10 at a time, as many rounds as you like. Each image has its own download button, or download them all together as a .zip.
