MP4 to MP3 free

Pull the audio out of an MP4 video and save it as MP3: music, lectures, talks, interviews. Pick the quality and convert several videos at once.

Your file is never uploaded: the conversion happens on your device, and the result comes out metadata-free (optional).

What is metadata?

Hidden data inside the file, like location (GPS), date and phone. Removed unless you tick “Keep metadata”.

How to convert MP4 to MP3

Drop the MP4 video — or several —, check the MP3 quality and tap Convert. Each video becomes an MP3 with the same name; with several, you can download them all as a .zip.

The default is 192 kbps, good for music. For lectures, talks or podcasts, 128 kbps is enough and the file is smaller; for music you want to keep, 320 kbps. The MP3 can’t sound better than the audio in the video: going above the original only makes the file bigger.

It’s fast: the tool doesn’t touch the video’s picture, it only reads the sound and writes the MP3. On a computer, an hour-long video usually takes one to two minutes.

Prefer the iPhone audio format? Pick M4A. Need the video in another format, not just the audio? Use Video converter. Got a video that isn’t MP4 (MOV, MKV, WebM)? It works the same way — see Video to MP3.

Example: the 1-hour lecture to listen to on the bus

A 1-hour recorded lecture as MP4 can be several GB because of the picture. As MP3 at 128 kbps it becomes a file of about 58 MB (at 192 kbps, about 86 MB): an MP3’s size depends only on its length and the quality you choose, not on the video’s size. On a computer, conversion usually takes one to two minutes, because the picture isn’t re-encoded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MP4 to MP3 on my phone?

Open this page in your phone’s browser, tap the drop area, pick the video from your gallery or Files and tap Convert. The MP3 goes to your downloads.

Which MP3 quality should I choose?

192 kbps for music, 128 kbps for speech (lectures, podcasts, meeting audio), and 320 kbps only if the original sound is high quality.

Can I convert several MP4 files to MP3 at once?

Yes. Drop all the videos together: they’re converted one after another and you download each MP3 or all of them as a .zip.

Does it work with videos over an hour long?

Yes. Your device’s memory is the limit: on a computer, hours-long videos convert normally; on a phone, very large files may not fit.

Can I get the audio as M4A instead of MP3?

Yes: choose M4A. It plays on iPhone and most devices and sounds a little better than MP3 at the same size.
