How to compress an image in 3 steps
- Drop up to 10 images in the area above, or tap to choose. JPG, PNG, WebP, iPhone HEIC, TIFF, PSD and even the first page of a PDF all work.
- Leave every format unticked to keep the same format, just lighter, or tick one or more formats to compare. If you need to, choose a width in pixels too.
- Tap Compress and check the before and after size of each version. Download the one you like, one by one or with Download all (.zip).
A real example, made with the tool
A 12 MP phone photo of 2.87 MB came out at 1020 KB keeping JPG (65% smaller) and at 888 KB as WebP (70% smaller), with the same 4032 × 3024 pixels. Shrinking it to 1600 px wide as well, the same photo dropped to 166 KB.
Each version shows its size and percentage saved on screen before you download, so you pick the format by looking at the result, not by guessing.
Questions about compressing images
Does compressing an image reduce quality?
At the settings used here, the difference isn’t visible to the eye. The image is re-saved with modern encoders, and the screen shows each version’s size so you decide before downloading.
Which format makes an image smallest?
For photos, AVIF and WebP are almost always smaller than JPG, and JPG is much smaller than PNG. In the example above, the same photo came out at 1020 KB as JPG and 888 KB as WebP. Tick more than one format and compare.
Is there a limit on images?
Up to 10 at a time, unlimited rounds, no sign-up and no watermark.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The image is read and re-saved inside your browser, and the new file is created on your device. Metadata such as GPS location is left out.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in the Android and iPhone browser: tap the drop area, choose photos from your gallery and download the result.
