How to edit a PDF

Drop the PDF and pick a tool: Text (tap where the text starts and type — font, size, color, bold and italic can be changed), Image (a logo, a photo, a stamp), Cover (hides what shouldn’t show), Highlight, Rectangle and freehand Draw. Everything moves by dragging and resizes with the corner handle.

Cover gets extra care: hiding something only on screen isn’t enough, because the text underneath would still be in the file — anyone could select and copy it. So “really remove” comes ticked: covered pages are redrawn as images, and the ID number, account or name you covered no longer exists in the PDF.

Text you type goes in as real text (using the PDF’s standard fonts), and the rest of the document isn’t touched. Changing a word that was already printed in the PDF isn’t possible without rebuilding the file — the way to do it, here and in other editors, is to cover it and type on top.

Everything runs in your browser, with no upload. Made a mistake? Undo (Ctrl+Z) steps back. To sign, Sign PDF has drawn, typed or photographed signatures, and initials on every page.

Example: the form that only exists as a PDF

An enrollment form came as a PDF with no fields to type in. With Text, tap each line and write your name, address and phone; hide the ID number that shouldn’t reach the school group with Cover, with “Really remove” ticked; and add a passport photo with Image. Made a mistake? Ctrl+Z goes back a step.

Questions about editing PDFs

Can I change a word that’s already in the PDF?

Not directly — no editor does that without rebuilding the file. The way is to hide the word with Cover (in the background color) and type over it with Text.

Does Cover really hide what’s underneath?

With “Really remove” ticked, yes: the covered page is redrawn and the covered text no longer exists in the file. Without that option, it could still be copied.

Which fonts can I use?

The standard PDF fonts, with size, color, bold and italic. They look the same in any reader.

Does the rest of the document change?

No. Only what you added goes into the file; pages without edits stay as they were.

Pages read with PDF.js (Mozilla, Apache-2.0 license) and the PDF written with pdf-lib (Andrew Dillon, MIT license), inside your browser.
