MP4 to MP3: how to extract audio from a video

To convert MP4 to MP3, open Imagyc's MP4 to MP3 tool, select a video stored on your device and convert it. You get a separate audio file. Try 128 kbps for speech or 192 kbps as a practical starting point for music.
The original video stays on your device. Imagyc processes local files in your browser without uploading them. It does not download videos from YouTube, Instagram or other websites.
What changes when MP4 becomes MP3?
An MP4 can contain video, sound and other information. An MP3 contains audio. The converter reads the video's existing soundtrack; it does not turn pictures into sound.
MP4 soundtracks often use AAC. Making an MP3 from AAC means decoding that soundtrack and encoding it again. Both codecs use lossy compression, so converting cannot restore detail missing from the source. 1
Convert MP4 to MP3 step by step
- Open MP4 to MP3 in your browser.
- Select an MP4 from your gallery, Downloads or another accessible folder.
- Check that MP3 is the output format.
- Choose a bitrate that suits the recording.
- Convert and wait for the result.
- Download the MP3 and check its beginning, ending and duration.
For MOV, MKV or WebM files, use Video to MP3. The audio codec still needs to be supported; a familiar filename extension does not guarantee that every soundtrack will work.
Audio is convenient for listening to a recorded lesson on a journey. Keep the video too if slides, demonstrations or on-screen instructions are needed to follow the lesson.
Choose 128, 192 or 320 kbps
| Bitrate | Useful starting point | Approximate size for 10 minutes |
|---|---|---|
| 128 kbps | Speech and lectures | 9.6 MB |
| 192 kbps | Music or mixed content | 14.4 MB |
| 320 kbps | Good source music when a high bitrate is preferred | 24 MB |
These are constant-bitrate calculations in decimal megabytes, excluding small headers and tags. Conventional MP3 constant bitrate tops out at 320 kbps. Variable bitrate uses different amounts of data for different passages. 2
There is no universal best setting. A noisy interview may sound effectively the same at all three rates. Compare a short passage at equal playback volume; the MP3 quality guide explains how.
Convert several MP4 files together
Add multiple saved videos, check the settings and start conversion. Each video produces a separate MP3. Download the results individually or together as a ZIP.
On a phone, begin with a small batch. Memory, source size and duration affect processing. Keep the tab open until it finishes, then listen to the outputs before removing your originals.
Can audio extraction be lossless?
It can when compressed audio packets are copied into a compatible output without encoding them again. FFmpeg calls this streamcopy. 3
That is different from converting an AAC soundtrack to MP3, which introduces another lossy encoding stage. To preserve the exact compressed source, you need an explicit copy-audio option and a compatible destination. A high MP3 bitrate is not the same as copying the original track.
In Imagyc, that option is M4A: if the video's audio is already AAC, the track is copied without re-encoding and the screen says “only the format changed”. Choose MP3 when the destination asks for MP3.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste a YouTube link?
No. Imagyc converts files already on your device. It is not a website video downloader.
Does 320 kbps improve the original soundtrack?
It may reduce the extra loss from the new encoding, but it cannot restore information missing from the original recording.
Why is my MP3 silent?
Check that the original video has an audible soundtrack. Missing audio, an unsupported track or an incomplete file can prevent the expected output.
Can I edit the resulting MP3?
Yes, in an editor that accepts MP3. If further editing is the main goal, consider a working format such as WAV from the best available source, and keep the original.
